Living in a variety of places over the past 20 years has given me a transient view on home. My oil paintings reflect this perspective; and in this series, I’m asking the viewer to picture home as an abstract concept. It’s a historically difficult time for first time homebuyers. How does this impact people psychologically who are just starting out? In my landscapes, I sometimes include figures and use visual devices like negative space, hopeful but haunting lighting, and expansive reflections to raise these kinds of questions for the viewer. What do the architectural shapes in space make you feel? Do the distant warm lights of homes reflected in the glass seem inviting or unattainable?
