Description
To an artist, the meaning of “still life” in the English language and “nature morte”
in the French language refers to the same type of subject matter. There is a subtle
difference though; the definition of still life refers to any inanimate object while naturemorte
refers to a dead object. The French version is the more accurate description of the
work I am producing. For my Masters of Fine Arts Thesis, I have chosen to develop a
variety of charcoal/conte and pastel drawings as well as one oil painting. In their own
unique way, each of these mediums accurately displays what I am attempting to represent
in my drawings of collectables.
