Description
The subjects of my work are portraits of myself and people that I know, and still lifes
composed of objects that have relevance to the individuals in the portraits. My purpose is simple yet
challenging: to promote, through careful observation, an honest and reverent description of my
subjects. Because I am a representational artist, all of my paintings are concerned with surface
details that represent the uniqueness of a particular entity, creating an optical similarity in form and
color with the subject. In addition, an attempt is made to convey my feelings and thoughts about
each subject, a sense of reverence for the beauty and elegance that characterizes what I see. In part,
my paintings are a response to the many distractions from patient, thoughtful concentration that
unfortunately permeate contemporary culture. I am hopeful that my work contains sufficient
meditative qualities to inspire meaningful contemplation by the viewer.
